Which shower suits your house depends on the water system behind the wall, not on looks. An electric shower heats cold mains water on demand through its own element, so it works independently of the hot water cylinder and keeps running when the immersion is off. Kilowatt rating is the thing to compare: 8.5kW is entry level, while 9.0kW and 9.8kW give a noticeably stronger flow. Mains fed models need mains pressure, tank fed and pumped models are built for gravity systems with a cold tank in the attic, which is still common in Irish homes. A mixer shower has no heater of its own and blends existing hot and cold, so it depends entirely on your cylinder and pressure. A thermostatic bar mixer adds a valve that holds temperature steady when a tap runs elsewhere in the house, which is the safety feature worth paying for. A power shower adds a built-in pump to lift a weak gravity feed. Overhead and twin or dual outlet systems pair a fixed rainhead with a handset on a rail, in round or square, chrome, matt black or brushed brass.
